I moved to the area in 2002 and enjoy the semi-rural environment and green surroundings.  I run a busy NHS dental practice in Hove and have done for 23 years, during this time I have also been an assessor for dental nurses, overseeing their training to gain a formal qualification.  I enjoy all the varied aspects of my job and I am especially passionate about health and safety & staff wellbeing.

My belief is every child is deserving of the best education available to them.

I have been in Horley for 35 years. My son is doing his GSCE’s and my daughter is yet to go through Oakwood. I am therefore committed to working for the benefit of the whole school towards achieving the best education for all, with limited options for secondary education in Horley.

I have worked in financial services/legal insurance for 25 years. With management experience, I am able to listen effectively to objectively question and debate relevant topics. I have a can-do positive approach and will take pride in representing the school. I am also a unit leader within Girlguiding.

I have lived in Horley since 2002 with my wife and two children both of whom attended Oakwood School.  My daughter has now moved on to University and my son is currently studying for his GCSE’s.  Both of them have had a positive experience during their time at Oakwood and I believe that the character that they have developed will enable them to thrive in their future.

As well as being a parent, I bring to the governing body my experience as a law graduate and Advanced Practitioner in Commercial and Contract Management currently working as a Senior Commercial Manager for an aerospace and defence corporation.

I am originally from East London and started my teaching career in South East Essex, follow by a period of time as the National Specialism Coordinator for Maths and Computing Colleges at The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, in Westminster.
I relocated to West Sussex as Assistant Headteacher at The Weald School Billingshurst before being promoted to Deputy Headteacher at Oakwood School in April 2008.  I have been a Senior Leader at Oakwood since then in a variety of roles including, responsibility for Behaviour and Attitudes for Key Stage 4, Curriculum and Timetable, Partnerships, Teaching and Learning and OFSTED preparation.  I am delighted, thrilled and excited to be taking up the position of Headteacher at Oakwood School from September 2023.

Mr Jay Burgoyne

I have lived in and around Horley for nearly 20 years. My eldest child finished at Oakwood last year and I have twins currently in year 9. I was previously a school governor at Langshott Infant school and helped them transition to a primary school. 

On the work front I am soon to celebrate 30 years at Lloyds Banking Group. During that time I have undertaken a number of roles across head office functions and customer facing teams. I now lead a team responsible for providing advice on residential mortgages. 

Throughout my life education has played an important part in creating opportunities for me, I would love that to be the case for everyone.

I currently work at Reigate College as Vice Principal; I have worked there since 2014 after becoming a teacher in 2008.  I am excited to join the Governor team as a Co-Opted Governor and hope to support the school in any way I can.  I bring an enthusiasm for learning and hope to provide support with my experience of working in the 16-19 sector.  I believe strongly that the opportunities students get at school influence their future decisions and the importance of providing students with the right skills for their future careers.

I currently live in Kent with my wife and two children and like to spend my weekends either coaching or watching my children play sports.

With a solid professional background in education, including my current role as Headteacher at Sandcross School, Reigate, and governance experience at Danetree Primary School, where two of my children attend, I bring extensive expertise and understanding of the responsibilities and impact of effective governance. On a personal level, as a parent of four children, including two stepchildren who attend Oakwood, I have had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand the school's positive influence on their growth and development over the past 18 months. This role allows me to contribute meaningfully to Oakwood’s continued success, fostering a sense of giving back to the school community that supports my family.

Lauren Reeves

I currently work in Higher Education training the teachers of tomorrow via apprenticeships and traditional routes. Prior to this chapter, I taught art and Design and Technology across primary and secondary settings, in addition to leading regional Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Teacher programmes. I am passionate about ensuring every learner benefits from skilled, reflective educators, and I look forward to supporting the governing board in maintaining and enhancing teaching standards and pupil outcomes in preparation for the wider world. Outside of work, I am an avid amateur historian and mountain biker—pursuits that inspire my belief in perseverance, resilience and lifelong learning, qualities I am eager to champion in my governor role.
