Ambition

During assembly last week, Miss Gibbons delivered an inspirational assembly on her journey to teaching and personal success. The year group erupted in applause for her. Not only did they show support for a member of staff, but many took inspiration from her story. We continue to show commitment to encouraging all of year 10 to be ambitious, and to achieve their dreams.

Year 10 are also continuing to achieve lots of achievement points! 10SHO are currently in the lead with 2244, however SNI are very closely behind!

Belonging

Chairs

A big thank you to Kylan and his team for offering to pack away and organise the chairs after assembly. I am very lucky that I have so many helpful, capable students in year 10, that are willing to give their own time to give back to the year group.

Drop in

Next week year 10 Drop in opens on a Tuesday, break 1 in G13. This is a chance for year 10 to come in and talk to a pastoral member of staff, or to just take some time out.

If you think your child would benefit from talking with someone, please do encourage them to ‘drop in’.

Character

Year 10 are continuing to show hard work, resilience and commitment to their studies. Below you will see the high standard of work students are completing.

Looking ahead:

30/9/26 - Open Evening is on Wednesday 5.30pm – 8.00pm. If they would like to be part of the evening linked to a subject or as a Tour guide, then they need to get a permission slip from their tutor or from reception,

13/10/26 - KS4 Careers Fair - Tuesday 13^th October - Year 10 is 5pm-6:30pm

As we start another week, Year 10 have continued to excel in their lessons, they have shown maturity in social times, and I am really proud of them. I hope you’ve received some positive calls and emails home this week too, staff will be contacting home more regularly. A big thank you to all the parents and carers that attended the information evening on Tuesday too. The PowerPoint will be uploaded to our school website shortly.

Well done to SHO who now have the highest achievement points of 1649!

Ambition

As you know, we have been having lots of discussions on the students' ambitions. They all have different carers in mind. I asked the students at break time, what carers they would like to go into, here are the most popular answers:

• Business owner
• Vet
• Police officer
• Actress
• Architect
• Electrician
• Nursery Nurse
• Photographer

It is great to hear the students discussing their interests and hopes for the future! We have lots of exciting events taking place for Year 10 to help and encourage them to stay ambitious. Please see the KS4 careers fair below.

Belonging

There has been lots of class discussions and class participation with year 10 this week. Students are often using their white boards in class to do this (a whiteboard pen in their pencil case is really helpful please).

Character

As students are beginning to feel tired, they are using their resilience to work hard in every subject! Their work is at a high level, and their class engagement remains excellent. Books are looking particularly neat still, well done Year 10!

Weekly Newsletter - 10 09 2026

Year 10 have made a fantastic start to the new school year. They have all come back with positive attitudes, ready to learn! This can be seen in 3491 achievement points they have already gained. VBN currently have the most, however SHO are just closely behind.

The new uniform is looking really smart, and we really appreciate parents/carers supporting us to ensuring students are dressed in line with our uniform policy Uniform & Equipment - Oakwood School. Morning equipment checks are also highlighting students’ readiness to learn, thank you for providing them with full pencil cases!

In this week’s assembly we spoke about Ambition - a strong wish to achieve something. Students have been encouraged to think about their ambitions, this will keep them motivated when things become hard. Year 10 have been challenged to share their ambitions with you at home, I hope you are able to have lots of positive conversations with them!

We have over 50 fantastic Peer Mentors, who have been working closely with the 7 new year students, helping them to settle into school life.  A big thank you to Anjali G and Izzy C, who have also both agreed to help with registers and assembly organisation this year, their organisational skills are exceptional!

Year 10 have also completed some brilliant work this week. Books are looking neat and, the students appear to be enjoying the opportunity for double lessons. Below are some examples of the kind of work they have completed.

Whole school production: All year 10 students are welcome to sign up to be part of our whole school production of Bugsy Malone​. Students can speak to their tutors for more information.
